Mr. Yamamoto
Mr. Yamamoto was my 10th-grade algebra teacher who always encouraged me to strive for excellence over the bare minimum. When I was a ‘B’ student, he told me I was an ‘A’ student and would regularly call on me to solve problems out loud with no paper in front of the class, and be more engaged when I lacked confidence. A student asked, “How does she do that???” and he responded, “She’s really smart.” I’ll never forget how that impacted my self-esteem for the better.
