Turnaround Arts: California currently works with 22 middle and elementary partner schools throughout the state, which were selected through a competitive application process. All schools serve a majority of students who qualify for free or reduced price meals.

In partnership with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, we build the capacity of teachers and principals to lead for change through the arts and train teachers to integrate the arts into other subjects, like reading and math. We provide funding for schools to partner with local arts organizations and bring teaching artists into the classroom, and we infuse schools with creative resources such as arts supplies, musical instruments, and licensing rights for school musicals. From an annual national conference, to ongoing coaching and convenings of teachers and school leaders — we connect school teams to arts education experts as well as a network of peer schools. We partner with schools to build a strategic, arts-based approach to addressing broader school challenges. Eight pillars guide arts-fueled transformation at each school.
